Dr. Richard G. Newell, of the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) and Mike Stice of CHESAPEAKE ENERGY shared their thoughts on the development of and prospects for unconventional gas in the USA.

Dr. Richard G. Newell from the EIA delivered a Special Keynote Session on Tuesday March 2nd. His presentation focussed on what is surely one of the most important issues in the global gas industry: "Shale Gas: A Game Changer For U.S. And Global Gas Markets?" Changes brought on by the rapid increase in shale gas reserves and production in the United States are reverberating in both domestic and international gas markets. Dr. Newell reviewed recent shale gas activity in the U.S., the prospects for future production increases, and likely effects on U.S. energy markets. He also outlined the potential for similar increases in shale gas production in other regions including Europe, China and Australia. Finally, he described the likely effects of these changes on global gas markets, including potential increases in gas consumption and likely alterations in global gas trading patterns.

With only one person between Barack Obama and himself, Dr Newell's unique insight into both US energy markets and unconventional gas were a true highlight at Flame 2010.

	Dieter Helm Economist & Fellow, New College Oxford University Dieter is an economist, specialising in utilities, infrastructure, regulation and the environment & concentrates on the energy, water and transport sectors in Britain and Europe. He founded OXERA is 1982 and currently holds a number of advisory board appointments, including member of the Advisory Panel on Energy and Climate Security, Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.
	Andy Flower Independent Consultant Andy has a near unrivalled base of LNG spent 28 years working in the business, initially with BP and for the last six years as an independent consultant. He has participated in the development of LNG projects in Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Africa and negotiated LNG sales contracts and pricing agreements with LNG buyers in all the main markets. Andy is now fulfilling a wide range of consulting assignments related to LNG.
	Michael Denison Lecturer in International Security Leeds University Dr Michael Denison is Research Director at Control Risks, a leading international business risk consultancy. He was formerly Special Adviser to the UK Foreign Secretary, Rt Hon David Miliband MP, and was Lecturer in International Security at the University of Leeds and University of St Andrews. His doctoral thesis on the politics and economy of post-Soviet Turkmenistan was one of the first English-language studies of the country.
	Dr. Richard G. Newell Administrator U.S. Energy Information Administration - EIA Dr. Richard G. Newell was sworn in on August 3, 2009 as the seventh Administrator of the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
